Attorney James Loraas
Attorney James Loraas received his B.A. from the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis-St. Paul) and his J.D. from Hamline University School of Law. While attending law school, James worked at a prominent Edina, Minnesota insurance defense law firm. There he worked on personal injury and civil rights cases.
His aspiration to protect the constitutional rights of the accused was realized when James Loraas opened his own law firm in 1989. For over 20 years, he has represented clients successfully in hundreds of criminal cases in the Twin Cities metropolitan area and in other areas of Minnesota.
James Loraas is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Criminal Law Section of the Hennepin County Bar Association, the Minnesota Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. James Loraas is admitted to practice before both state and federal courts in Minnesota.

Attorney Ellen Loraas
Attorney Ellen Loraas received her B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and her J.D. from Hamline University School of Law. While attending the University of Wisconsin, she worked as an intern in social work settings in Milwaukee. While attending law school, she worked at the Legal Aid Society of Minneapolis and then worked for the prosecution as an intern at the Minneapolis City Attorney’s Office. After graduating from law school, Ellen worked at a large Bloomington, Minnesota financial investment firm in the compliance department.
In 1992 Ellen joined her husband, Attorney James Loraas, in his practice and formed the law firm of Loraas & Loraas. In addition to handling criminal cases, she also takes civil cases and consumer rights-related cases in federal court. Her diverse experiences with social work, criminal law, and white collar business issues are valuable in the firm’s representation of accused individuals from all different walks of life. Ellen Loraas is admitted to practice before both state and federal courts in Minnesota.
Attorney Ellen Loraas volunteers for various social service organizations. She also enjoys biking, music, and reading.
